Sliding or Swinging: Which is Better?
Sliding gates are usually the most practical choice for sloping blocks. Because they move sideways along a track, the gradient of the driveway doesn’t affect their clearance or operation. This makes them ideal when the slope runs across the driveway.
Swing gates can be more complicated. If the driveway rises from the street, an inward-swinging gate may catch on the ground. A solution is to build the gate with a rake or use offset hinges. In other cases, the gate might have to swing outward, which can be difficult if the space at the front is limited.

A gate installed on a slope places extra load on the motor. If the system is underpowered, it will wear out much faster and cause problems with daily use.

Features such as soft start and soft stop reduce stress on the mechanism and make the gate quieter and smoother to operate. This is especially important on wider or heavier designs like aluminium privacy gates or Decowood finishes.
